Metroseal is using one of the highest-quality rubber products on the market to create bespoke solutions for our clients. Our latest material complies with rubber standard EN45545-HL3 – this means it has been subjected to stringent safety testing.
With three recognised levels for standard EN45545 (HL1, HL2 and HL3), our HL3 rubber is manufactured and tested to the highest level. This means it’s compliant with the standards required by law in the manufacture of all rail transport, including not only regional and high-speed trains, but also trams and Metros. The standard was introduced as a compulsory requirement for all rail travel throughout Europe to protect staff and passengers from fire hazards onboard railway vehicles.
The material is used to make rubber mouldings, extrusions, rubber sheeting and other related products that require a high safety standard. Flame-retardant and halogen-free, it provides low smoke and low toxicity properties.
Warrington Fire Service carried out a series of tests to check how our rubber performs in the event of a fire: it was tested in terms of how well it stops flames from spreading, how quickly it ignites, the intensity and toxicity of the smoke and the release of heat. In terms of preventing the flames from spreading, tests showed that it took almost four minutes for the fire to spread 5cm along the EN45545-HL3 standard rubber.
